For as long as I can remember, the Sisterhood has always hosted a senior group, consisting of many Holocaust survivors, who would visit our synagogue and partake in a "mock" Seder. The guests would be treated to a Haggadah reading by our Rabbi and Cantor, delicious food provided by our caterer, songs from our Nursery School children, and goody bags filled with kosher for Passover items. As most of these men and women faced difficult economic times, this day was greatly anticipated and truly appreciated.

Unfortunately, the Sisterhood was forced to cancel the Seder with our caterer. Not wanting to disappoint this wonderful group of seniors from Brighton Beach, we decided to create a Mitzvah Day experience with this group of well-deserving people.

On Sunday, April 25th, over 40 guests were bused in from Brooklyn, and enjoyed a day of dining, music, games and camaraderie. Religious School children and student teachers entertained, while handmade gifts from the Nursery School were distributed. Goody bags filled with non-perishable items were given to each smiling attendee. Although English was not their first language, it was easy to interpret their joy and appreciation. What a true mitzvah! Thank you, Sheryl Lerner, for coordinating this event so successfully. It will be a day so many of the volunteers will remember.

A picture truly is worth a thousand words…

On behalf of Harvey, Samantha, Erica and Uncle Larry, I wish you a happy, healthy summer-
