It is hard to believe that this Shofar marks the end of another full year for Sisterhood. We have been so busy -- the time has just flown by. During May and June, Sisterhood has continued its activities at the Woodbury Jewish Center. On Friday evening, June 6th, Sisterhood members will take an active role in the service to celebrate Sisterhood Shabbat. Debbie Phillips did a wonderful job coordinating the evening with Dr. Meisel. Thank you also to the Kahn family for sharing Allison’s Bat Mitzvah weekend with us.

Our last book club selection, Beneath the Marble Sky, by John Shors will be discussed on June 3rd. As always, the book prompted fascinating dialogue among our readers. The participants were treated to a conference call by the author who graciously answered questions about the book. Our book club will continue by popular demand on July 29th. Please keep an eye out for the next selection and plan to join us. A million thanks to Karen Malin for coordinating and running our illuminating and popular monthly book discussions this year.

Thank you to everyone who has supported our lovely Gift/Judaica shop. Special thanks to our dedicated volunteers who keep the shop running-we couldn’t do it without you. Don’t forget that our gift shop can be your one-stop shop for teacher’s gifts, babies, Father’s Day, engagements and weddings. We also have everything you need to prepare for your Bar/Bat Mitzvah – at internet competitive prices. Be sure to check us out first.

As the end of this year approaches, I have many people to thank. This year has been a whirlwind. It has been my pleasure to work with a wonderful Board, many of whom work quietly behind the scenes all year long. Nothing could have been accomplished without their consistent dedication and enthusiasm. Specifically, my heartfelt thanks (in no specific order) to Debra Daniels, Fran Adler, Cindy Licht, Bonnie Fachler, Felice Linder, Cindy Matte, Helene Kamin, Jackie Feinstein,, Beth Steinberg, Debra Phillips, Sheryl Goldman, Alissa Chaskes, Amy Hochberg, Karen Malin, Robin Glassberg, Carol Rothstein, Joanne Schneider, Susi Schuster, Wendy Greenblatt, Robin Jacobs, Sheila Kolpon and Elayne Soslowitz. Todah Rabah. In addition, we are indebted to Dr. Meisel, Miss Vivien, Linda Altman and Silvia Padron for everything they do for Sisterhood every year. Each of these special people regularly assists Sisterhood in essential ways during the year and, for their help and support, we are extremely grateful. It is my good fortune and pleasure to be able to work with all of these individuals on a regular basis.

Enjoy the start of the summer. Sisterhood has already started planning and the coming year promises to be chock-full of interesting and enjoyable events. Keep an eye out for more information on our Torah Fund event scheduled for September 14th and the launching of our Sisterhood cookbook. We were thrilled to see many new faces join us for our varied activities this year. If you considered participating in a Sisterhood event and circumstances prevented you from doing so, it is never too late to start. Watch the green sheets and this location, for next year’s Sisterhood activities. Drop me a line so you can be part of this dynamic group at ontherun@optonline.net.

Shalom,
Sheryl P. Lerner
