Yom Ha Zikaron (Israel Memorial Day) and Yom Ha’Atzmaut (Israel Independence Day) come back-to-back on the Jewish calendar. Our May meeting fell on Yom Ha Zikaron, and so we commemorated that day, then celebrated life and Israel’s independence. Our program began with a video called “Against All Odds– Israel Survives; the Miracle of ‘48”. Using actual footage, CNN journalist Michael Greenspan related stories, facts and miracles that occurred during Israel’s struggle to survive in 1948. This was followed by personal reminiscences by some of our members, and we finished by learning a dance called “Od Yava Shalom Aleinu (Peace Will Come to Us All”. It was a wonderful morning for all.

Our next two meetings will be held on:
June 4th at 10:30 am in the cocktail room
July 2nd @ 10:30 am in the cocktail room

June’s program will feature Saul Fathi, author of Full Circle: Escape from Baghdad and the Return. Mr. Fathi will discuss his personal story of escape from Iraq in 1948, as well as the current American war in Iraq.
