About the WJC Religious School

Woodbury Jewish Center’s Religious School is dedicated to making every child feel good about themselves as Jews and as young adults. Starting in Kindergarten and throughout their years with us, students learn to appreciate Jewish history, heritage, holidays and, most of all, the values of chesed (helping others) and tikkum olam (healing the world).

Kindergarten, First and Second grade classes meet on Sunday mornings. Alef (3rd grade) and Gimel (5th grade) meet Sunday in person and have 45 minute virtual sessions on Wednesday afternoons.  Bet (4th grade) and Daled (6th grade) meet Wednesday afternoon in person and have 45 minute virtual sessions on Sunday mornings.  Hey (7th grade) meets on Wednesday afternoons only, in person.

Jewish holidays are observed by every grade with a variety of fun programs and activities. Our students also enjoy off-site learning at Jewish and Holocaust museums, working at a food pantry, entertaining at an assisted living facility and lots more.

Students who complete our program have the ability to fully participate in all synagogue services and events and holiday celebrations in the home.

A child’s Bar or Bat Mitzvah is one of the most exciting stages in a family’s Jewish life. We offer resources, support and encouragement throughout the process. Our goal is for every child feel confident and at ease on the bimah.  Read More

High School And Confirmation
The Bar or Bat Mitzvah is the not the end of our children's Jewish education. Our High School classes, for grades 8-11, meet with Rabbi Fruithandler twice each month and are intended to bolster the student's confidence with lessons in leadership skills from a Jewish perspective. Children who continue taking classes through tenth grade are treated to a wonderful Confirmation ceremony and celebration.

10am in the chapel with Morah Ruth Deane!

Please join me, Ruth Deane, for our Family Shabbat Service on the Shabbat mornings below. Our 45 minute services are always kid and parent friendly. We use this time to join together and share in singing prayers/tfillot and to have an opportunity to discuss today’s personal challenges and triumphs, as seen through the lens of this week’s torah portion.
Hope to see you there…Shabbat Shalom!
